Effects of Planting Times and Mulching on Growth and Flowering of Native Wild Crocosmia crocosmiiflora in Cut Flower Culture

Abstract

|
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of planting times and mulching on growth and flowering of Crocosmia crocosmiiflora. The corms and rhizomes planted early autumn had more fading and withering than those planted later during winter. But the corms and rhizomes planted on December 5 were not emerge in the year and all of the those survival during winter. Vinyl mulching was found to be more effective on increment of survival rate during the winter. As planting date was late, plant height, number of flower stem were increased, the days to flowering was shorten and these items were found to be better by vinyl mulching than non-treatment with mulching. From these results, mulching during the wintering and planting after November 25 is recommended to produce of cut flower, the authors believed.
